Hobby Scene
article kindly provided by Sanne Winther
Well the hobby in Denmark is very small, we do have a breyer dealer here, but we're not always "up-to-date" on the latest models.
Because itīs so small over here, only the "basic" models get offered via the dealer here.
We're a few collectors in Denmark, nothing major, itīs all still very new over here.
We have normally one live show per year, anything other then that we have to go abroad.
Photoshows we have, but because its a small hobby here not a lot of entries.
We are very close to Sweden with the hobby, because there are more collectors there, and more shows, and itīs always fun to go to live shows and meet the old friends.
Itīs a wonderful way to stay in touch and meet new friends.
In Europe the hobby is fairly small in general, I think UK and Sweden and Germany is the countries that is most into the hobby here.
Since Denmark is small when it comes to the hobby we donīt yet have any model horse related clubs. We used to, but.. people didnt support it so it was closed.
Sweden is extremly active as well as Germany on the cLub area, it is wonderful to see.
I think in Denmark itīs an attitude change that is needed. Many people see Breyers and Peter Stones as toys (wich they also are, but also highly collectible), and many parents over here think that$55 for a Breyer is just too much (yes you saw right, thats what we pay for a plain OF trad size breyer... now you also know how our taxes is.. because most of that amount is taxes!!).
I can see that point, and of course that is too much for a "plain toy". But it is slowly getting a little bigger, but it is going slow.
I tried to keep the club we had going for 7 years, good times and bad, but after we went down to only 3 meners and the rest was silent members that didnīt want the magazines or join photo shows or live shows... well I throw in the towel, it was just to much work for me for 3 people and to try and ask everyone else to keep staying active in the club ect ect ect...
People simply werenīt interested, so it ran out in the sand, but people still collect and we still have the dealer here, who also sells to Sweden and Norway.
